    Frequently Asked Questions

This one-day tour from Yerevan is a journey to the highest point in Armenia and its surroundings. The itinerary includes: Amberd Fortress - the impressive "fortress in the clouds," a 10th-century medieval citadel located at an altitude of 2,300 meters (7,550 ft) on the slopes of Mount Aragats. Armenian Alphabet Monument - a unique cultural complex consisting of 39 giant stone letters of the Armenian alphabet, a perfect spot for memorable photos. Mount Aragats and Kari Lake - the culmination of the tour is the ascent to the high-altitude glacial Lake Kari ("Stone Lake"), situated 3,200 meters (10,500 ft) above sea level.

This is a very important point. The road leading to Amberd Fortress and Lake Kari is closed in winter and early spring due to heavy snowfall and weather conditions at high altitudes. The season for safe and comfortable trips to Aragats only begins when the snow has completely melted, usually in late May.

The journey to Armenia's highest mountain takes 6-7 hours. This is a comfortable duration that allows you to enjoy all the locations without rushing. The total round-trip distance by car is approximately 180 km (about 112 miles).

The price of a private tour to Aragats depends on the vehicle you choose (sedan, SUV, minivan). The price includes: transfer from any point in Yerevan and back, a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle with a driver, bottled water. Paid Separately: meals and guide services (upon request). Entrance Tickets: Admission to the Amberd Fortress and the Alphabet Monument is free. Guide services cost extra for every vehicle category. Passenger insurance is not included in the tour price.

The altitude of Lake Kari is 3,200 meters (10,500 ft). The weather here is drastically different from Yerevan's: it is always significantly colder and windier at the top, even in the middle of summer. We strongly recommend: bringing a warm jacket or windbreaker, wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes, using sunscreen and sunglasses, as the sun is very strong in the mountains.

The tour itself does not involve strenuous physical activity or long hikes. We drive up to all the sites by car. However, it's worth noting that you will be at a high altitude, which may cause mild dizziness in sensitive individuals. It is recommended to move at a calm pace.

Yes, and it's a unique experience! There is a high-altitude restaurant right on the shore of Lake Kari where you can rest and have lunch. They often prepare the famous Armenian soup "khash" (even in summer), as well as other dishes of Caucasian cuisine.

Amberd is one of the few well-preserved examples of Armenian military architecture. Its location on a rocky promontory between two rivers made it almost impregnable. It offers fantastic panoramic views of the Ararat Valley.

Yes, the tour is perfect for a family outing and will be interesting even for children, especially the visit to the giant letters at the Alphabet Monument. The most important thing is to choose the right clothing for all family members so that no one gets cold at the summit.

Choose the date, passenger count and vehicle, add a paid guide if needed, then enter your contact details and send a booking request. Trip details are agreed during confirmation. No prepayment. Payment is made after the trip. Cash in AMD, USD, EUR, RUB or a transfer to an Armenian bank card. No card terminal in the car and no online card payment.
