Zvartnots, or the "Cathedral of Celestial Angels," was an exceptionally unusual structure for its time—a circular, three-tiered temple of enormous height. Unfortunately, it stood for only about 300 years before being destroyed by a powerful earthquake in the 10th century. Today, even its ruins capture the imagination and are a symbol of Armenia. The site also offers a beautiful view of Mount Ararat.
